How to Self Publish

The first question you should ask yourself when deciding to put your book in print is whether or not you wish to self publish or pursue a traditional publisher. There are pros and cons to both options, so you should carefully consider your goals and what results you hope to produce.

With the advent of ebooks, self publishing is an affordable option for authors because the Internet can even the playing field as far as “prestige.” With a good marketing campaign, etc. you can promote your book as well, or even better than traditional publishers. Unlike traditional publishing where you get an “advance” payment against future royalties, with self publishing you have to put up the money yourself.

Things to consider when self-publishing:

  • Capital – how much will it cost you to publish?
  • Editing
  • Printing – print on demand (POD) vs. short run printers
  • Publicity and Marketing
  • Book Distributing

Poem to a Special Aunt

Strong women lift and carry
the burdens of this world.
But it takes a special woman
to do it with a smile.
That’s why I give to you this
poem to a special aunt.

Often times we overlook the sister of
our mother and father.
We even write funny poems about
sisters and a special poem for
grandma.

But when we have a special aunt
that is awesome as you,
the cute sister quotes, thank you
poems to a special teacher, and
poems for sorority sisters will
never do.
How about a very special poem to
a special aunt.

You’re special because
you’re always there for
me when I need you.

You give me words of encouragement,
pat on the back, and
even a kiss on the cheek
when I most need it.

This poem to a special aunt
is to celebrate Y-O-U.
Young at heart,
open door policy,
unique woman.
